Greg Friese on Presenting at EMS Expo

Yesterday was presentation day for me at EMS Expo. I gave two presentations. 1) Trends in Online Education and 2) Social Media and Networking for Training and Administration. This was the first time I presented either topic. Some segments of each presentation I had given before.

The morning session – online education trends – began at 0830. I was impressed at the number of people that attended given the early start time, especially for the early start time. Audience questions primarily revolved around my comments about the relevance of accreditation and student creation of social media content and uploading it to websites like YouTube or Flickr. Remember you can view a PDF of my slides at EPS411.com/emsexpo2009.

My afternoon session about social media had less people, but many were repeats from the morning session. Overall I felt like I did not know what the audience needed/wanted to hear and I am not sure if the audience knew what they needed. The most significant question was “what happens if your social media efforts are too successful?” This is the first time I have been asked this question. Typically I am asked about how to start a social media presence. Next year I hope to be able to answer this question. Meanwhile, get started with a social media presence. If your efforts have a positive impact on your organization keep doing it. If your efforts don’t work stop doing it.

The MedicCast EMS podcast is scheduled to kick of its EMS Expo Live coverage tomorrow at Noon ET. You will want to follow it here if you are not available to attend in person.  I am expecting a special guest or two to join me on the stage to discuss some special request EMS tips so make sure you stop by.

I’ll be posting updates here over the next few days as well as over at the MedicCast EMS podcast site.  If you are attending the expo, you can help out with our podcast coverage.  Chris Montera, Greg Friese and I are looking for your favorite products seen at the EMS Expo.  Stop by our booth and share your picks with us so we can go take a look for ourselves and maybe feature it in a video product review.

On Friday morning, Chris, Greg and I will make our favorite product innovators choices. You can help contribute to our decision.  We’ll also pick our favorite swag item, too so keep your eyes open!

See you all tomorrow!

Jamie Davis, the Podmedic

How do you make the EMS Expo BIGGER?

EMS1We are honored and understand that bringing people to the forefront of technology in the EMS Field is not easy.  As a tradition the industry embraces technology like the Titanic turned, but lately there is a chance to see just how technology can be used to bring the latest in information and up to date content to an industry!  We are looking forward to the next few days of internet blogging, video podcasting, facebooking, twittering and a whole sleu of social media exposure at the BIGGEST EMS Conference in the nation!

Video: Focus on Connections and Collaboration

I am making final preparations for my two presentations at EMS Expo. During my presentation, Online Education Trends for Emergency Responders, I will dispel the myth of free for vendors, hospitals, and training providers to connect with EMS professionals. Sure free CE and free food is always welcome, but it does not build a tribe. Free does not build a long and collaborative connection. EMS professionals want to belong to a bigger movement, connect with other EMS professionals from near and far, interact directly with subject matter experts and EMS “celebrities,” and collaborate with one another to learn, solve problems, and improve the profession.

What do you think about the notion of free? Do you feel connected with the organizations and vendors that give you free food and free CE? Is my premise, connections and collaboration, more meaningful and useful than free?

Connecting with EMS Podcasters at the EMS Expo

Hi everybody! This is the last of my pre-expo videos. I leave early tomorrow morning and everything you see from me for the rest of the week will be coming directly from the EMS Expo itself.

One of the most frequent questions I’ve been getting lately is, “How do we connect with you all [ems podcasters] at the EMS Expo?”

Two ways -

First, check out the EMS Expo live podcast schedule I posted over at the MedicCast EMS podcast blog

Second, follow our Twitter feeds to find out where we are and what we are doing.

I put this short video together to tell you exactly how to connect up with Chris Montera, Greg Friese, and me – Jamie Davis, the Podmedic via twitter. Don’t forget you can get an “almost live” look at the EMS Expo right here at EMSExpoLive.com!
