Screen shot 2010-01-01 at 3.24.51 PMChronicles of EMS is a reality web series that travels the world exploring EMS systems, how they operate and the personalities behind them. From San Francisco to the UK every system has it’s unique differences that can offer other providers a different perspective and educate viewers on ideas and concepts that work. Through realtime communication and social media, the sharing of best practices bring paramedics and EMT’s together in a community built around the web series engaging them in dialogue, raising awareness and showcasing the real side of the EMS Industry.

Chronicles of EMS was developed by Director/ Producer/ Paramedic Thaddeus Setla NREMT-P. and Chris Montera EMT-P.  It was conceived as a chance to share the knowledge of how all EMS Systems operate and entertain the viewers. During a podcast on EMS Garage with Paramedic Justin Schorr from the San Francisco Fire Department and Mark Glencorse, a Paramedic from the UK, our paths crossed through social media allowing us a way of sharing their story and expanding it to other parts of the world.

The SystemIf you must know us Paramedics and EMS Professionals had a first glance at NBC trying to pull off creating our industry, did they get it right? from the latest blog posting it appears that more EMS Professionals are turned away from the notion that women are sex symbols (as portrayed in Trauma) and are not able to perform equally in the profession.  We don’t see those calls as they have to portray in the series, and the realism is just not there.  “The System” Web Series promises to take the EMS Industry by storm and portray how we actually work!  There is a huge void where NBC tried to fill and what we actually do as professionals, why is this such a hard thing to accomplish? It appears to be a industry need to have a show that allows us to express our frustration with the healthcare system as it is and the expectations that are put upon us.

In May 2009, National EMS Week, We premiered the movie “Level Zero” to the world.  The goal of the film was to showcase a very busy system and how we are able to manage the work load. We filmed 6 people that work in Alameda County and allowed them to explain why they do what they do.   The truth of the matter is that the movie was seen over 20,000 times in the first 2 months it was online and was requested at film festivals and have continued to be useful to educators to teach younger generations what the EMS industry is all about.  We are excited to be able to take filmmaking to a whole new level as we discuss how we can combine education and entertainment into this attention grabbing medium and provoke thought, inspire careers and offer a chance for companies to see how effective video can be in a companies mission!  You can view “Level Zero” here or watch the trailer here
